About Dr. McPhee

DavidMcPhee200Dr. David McPhee is a Minnesota native with a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota.  He was  a diplomate of the American Board of Professional Psychology, board-certified in counseling psychology, until Spring, 2014.  He recently changed to Psychologist Emeritus in Minnesota, and he will continue to be licensed in Arizona until
April, 2017. He holds a doctorate in ministry from Luther-Northwestern, and was a pastor before becoming a full time psychologist.

Before re-entering private practice in the mid-1990’s, Dr. McPhee was clinical director of Arizona Psychiatric Affiliates and of Desert Vista Hospital in Mesa. His background includes ten years of general city hospital work, membership on state medical and nursing licensing boards, and extensive experience as a counselor for children, families, and adults. He has also been active in the training of psychologists and psychotherapists, and has lectured and written on gender issues, psychotherapy, and custody evaluations. He has served as president of the Arizona Psychological Association, and Arizona chapter of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts and of the Minnesota Board of Medical Examiners.

Dr. McPhee has lectured at the Family Law Section of the Maricopa Bar Association, and the Arizona State Bar Association, and the Minnesota Bar Association, as well as state conventions of the Arizona Psychological Association and the international convention of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts. He frequently leads national workshops on Personality Disorders, and has provided national training seminars on The Mental Health Professional in Family Court.

Over the years Dr. McPhee has conducted or supervised a large number of child custody evaluations and frequently served as Family Court Advisor and Parenting Coordinator. He has helped train other psychologists for Family Court work, and worked to influence public policy and local rules impacting families in crisis. Throughout, his first priority has been direct service to children and families.
