WHAT'S PERSONAL COACHING?
I'm a retired psychologist with over 30 years experience. Check my history under the "RESUME" tab. I've put my psychologist license on temporary inactive status because I want to focus on coaching and teaching. Coaching is not mental health care or psychotherapy, though we do emphasize "mental fitness." A personal coach works with you on setting and meeting personal and professional goals and objectives, and meeting challenges you face. The area can be any combination of career, relationships, self-care and relaxation, practical management of grief and loss, or just starting fresh in new situations. Coaches don't deal with serious mental or emotional issues, and will recommend you get qualifed, licensed help in those areas.
HOW MUCH?
I work for free, but ask you to donate to a grass roots charity I support. I'll tell you all about the charity when we meet. Average per-session donations have been around $100 , though more is certainly appreciated. Please pay in advance at the time of scheduling, non-refundable unless you give Nick at least three days advance notice so we can try to fill your slot. If $100 is a hardship, please talk to Nick about that: we'll do our best to take care of you. Suggested minimum donation is normally $65.
HOW DO I START?
Please contact our administrator Nick O'Madden nickomadden@yahoo.com and schedule a session or up to three sessions. Nick handles all scheduling and payment issues, and is an experienced therapist and clinician who can answer your questions. Coaching is normally a short-term service. You can schedule up to three sessions at a time. Please pay in advance for the total number of sessions you schedule.
IS COACHING THE SAME AS PSYCHOTHERAPY?
No. Psychotherapy can be an indispensable and powerfully effective tool when dealing with serious mental or emotional problems, and creates a permanent medical record. Coaching is private too, but normally much shorter term and there's no medical record. Our connection is private, though I may seek confidential anonymous consultation on my work with our administrator Nick, who is bound to privacy just as I am.
CAN I CONTACT YOU BEFORE OUR FIRST SESSION?
You can email me your questions or goals before our first meeting. Or just show up and we'll figure things out together. You're the boss.
WHAT IF I HAVE TO CANCEL?
To avoid being charged for a missed appointment, please let us know as soon as you do. It's important that to let both Nick and David know at the same time, since they are in different locations and time zones. Please notify Nick at nickomadden@yahoo.com and always copy David at davidmcpheephd@gmail.com.
HOW DO WE CONNECT ONLINE?
Our sessions are on LINE APP. https://line.me/en is our choice for video chats. If you don't have it, please download the app. Please send your LINE ID to nickomadden@yahoo.com. I can't contact you without it. I'll initiate the video call at your appointment time. To set your LINE ID you go to your profile on the app and select a unique name. For details, please go to https://help.line.me/
Of course, I'm likely in a time zone different from yours, maybe very different. My legal residence is Minnesota, but I frequently travel in Asia. As a convenience to international coaching clients, I schedule all appointments using ICT, or Indochina Time, so you'll have to translate that into your time zone, and don't forget Daylight Savings Time -- which doesn't affect ICT.
FINAL WORDS?
Thanks for reading this far. If I have the privilege of being your coach, I'll devote all my best efforts to you and everything you want to achieve.
